Maintenance Tips

To make sure your RV continues to work in tip-top condition, perform these basic maintenance procedures. If you are unsure or unable to perform any of these items, get in touch with us and we can certainly do it for you!

Before Each Trip:

-
Examine Tires - Check cold pressure in each tire and add air as needed. Check for wear and tear, bubbling or other signs of damage.
-
Check Running Lights - Make sure headlights, taillights, side markers and brake lights are functioning.
-
Clear Roof Debris - Clear debris that can fly off during travel, and retract roof-mounted antennas. Also check slide roof tops for debris.
Monthly
-
Run Generator (if equipped) - Run at about 50% load at least once a month to keep gas from going bad. For winter storage, consider using a fuel stabilizer.
-
Top off Batteries - Check water levels and refill with distilled water. Clean terminal
-
Clean Air Conditioner - Clean vents and intake. Clean or replace air filters.
-
Check Under RV - Look for signs of leaks. Make sure clamps and hoses are secure.
-
Test Safety Equipment - Test and clean smoke detector and carbon monoxide detector and replace batteries as needed. Check fire extinguisher.
-
Lubricate Slides - Lubricate to ensure slides pull in and out smoothly.
-
Check Seals - Check external seals for water infiltration and use RV sealant as needed.
Quarterly
-
Wash & Wax - Clean to remove dirt and protect paint.
-
Treat Metals - Lubricate metals that come into contact with other metals, such as jacks, hitches and fold-up stairs.
-
Lubricate Hinges and Locks - A dry Lubricant works well to keep things moving freely and it doesn’t attract dust like common silicone & lubricant sprays will.
-
Inspect Appliances - Do a functional and visual inspection of each major appliance. Turn on burners, check refrigerator temperature, etc.
Yearly
-
Service Brakes - Have your brakes serviced by a professional every 12 months or 12,000 miles.
-
Sanitize Water System - Put a cup of bleach into the fresh tank, fill it with potable water, run faucets until you smell bleach. Let it sit 4 to 8 hours and drain. Fill the tank with potable water again and run the faucets until the bleach smell is gone.
-
Service Furnace - Have it serviced to ensure it’s in good working order.
-
Flush Water Heater - Don’t just drain, but flush water and check anode if equipped.
-
Test Electrical System - To run basic tests, you should be connected to shore power. Check your circuit breaker and each fuse, then test each electric outlet, light and appliance, as well as stove and furnace electric starters. Check voltage on your battery to ensure it’s charging properly.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Will you replace a roof, wall, floor, or do other structural repairs?
A. We may be able to fix a soft spot in the floor or a wall, if it's not too large. We don't have a shop and these repairs often take days to compete - sometimes with the interior exposed to the elements. For those reasons, we
don't do most structural repairs.
Q. Can you move my trailer?
A. No. With the limitations of our business liability insurance, we can only move trailers we own.
Q. Do you buy, sell or trade RV's?
A. No.
Q. Can you fix my generator?
A. We can do basic troubleshooting. Beyond that, we do not work on generators.
Q. Can you order the parts I need for my RV?
A. Yes, we can take care of all parts orders.
Q. Can you wash my RV and/or do a roof treatment?
A. Yes...Sometimes...It depends. We can if you have a pressurized water source (garden hose outlet is fine) on your property or a spot you're allowed to be at (a campground is ok if you're seasonal) and temp is 10 degrees C or above.
Q. Do you work year-round?
A. Yes, but services are limited. Since we work onsite which is usually outside, not in a garage, anything involving sealant or adhesive, etc cannot be completed because those products will not adhere properly below 10 degrees Celsius.
Q. Are you willing to do any general labour/handyman work?
A. Absolutely. Similar to what we do in trailers, small handyman jobs such as replacing/upgrading a light fixture, switch, or electrical socket, furniture assembly, faucet, toilet repair or replacement we can also do in your home. Let us know what you need done, and as always we'll do whatever we can to serve you best!
